How long does it take for a man to fall in love?
The phenomenon often referred to as “chemistry” isn’t an exact science. Falling in love varies for everyone and depends on many factors, from physical attraction to how comfortable you feel in someone’s presence. However, research sheds light on what happens in the brain when those initial butterflies appear—and how long it typically takes for people to fall in love.
According to a 2013 survey conducted by YouGov and the dating site eHarmony, the time between a first date and saying “I love you” differs for men and women.
On average, it takes men 88 days to fall in love, while women take approximately 134 days to develop true feelings of love.
A separate study by the dating platform Elite Singles in 2017 revealed that 61% of women believe in love at first sight, compared to 72% of men.
These surveys primarily focused on the timeframe for heterosexual men to fall in love. Other types of relationships remain less studied. For example, a 2000 study involving 38 lesbian women found that they typically confessed love or commitment to their partners after about six months. Additionally, a 2013 survey by Match.com indicated that 65% of gay men believe in love at first sight, compared to 60% of lesbians.
